What is a rectangle?

1

A quadrilateral

2

A parallelogram

3

Has 4 right angles

4

A diagonal

3

Open Ended

What are some properties of rectangles?

4

Properties of Rectangles:

  1. All 4 angles are right angles

  2. Opposing sides are parallel and congruent

  3. Opposing angles are congruent

  4. Consecutive angles are supplementary

  5. Diagonals bisect each other

5

Draw

Draw and explain your drawing of a rectangle

6

How can I tell that a parallelogram is a rectangle?

By checking the diagonals! Use the distance formula to calculate and check if the diagonals and opposing sides are congruent, if they are, the parallelogram is a rectangle.

Second Theorem:

7

If the slopes of the opposing sides in a parallelogram are EQUAL, it's a rectangle ONLY IF the opposing sides are congruent.

What would that mean?

Quadrilateral JKLM has the vertices:

J(-2, 3), K (1, 4), L(3, -2), and M(0, -3)

Is JKLM a rectangle?
