Sam Houston (1836-1838, 1841-1843)
Mirrabeau Lamar (1838-1841)
Anson Jones (1844-1845)

• The rebellion was defeated.

• President Lamar ordered the Cherokee out of Texas for their role.

• Many Tejanos had stayed loyal to Mexico

• More Americans were moving into Nacogodoches

​Causes

The Cordova Rebellion (August 1, 1838):
Vicente Cordova organized Tejanos and Native Americans to fight the Anglo American groups.

• The Comanche tried to leave anyway so the Texas Rangers attacked.

• Many died.

​Effects

• Comanche leaders agreed to meet and give back ALL of their Anglo captives, but only brought one.

​Causes

The Council House Fight (March 19, 1840):
Texas Rangers held the Comanche leaders hostage in the meeting house in San Antonio.
