Energy Transformation in Energy Usage

Energy Transformations

All the energy in the UNIVERSE is already here and will always be here.

Law of Conservation of Energy

states that energy cannot be created or destroyed,

it can only change forms.

Multiple Choice

When energy is released, it dissappears.

• True

• False

Energy Transformation

is the process of energy changing from one form to another.

Efficiency vs Inefficiency

Efficiency is the ratio of USEFUL output energy to input energy (ex: 95/100 or 95%)

Inefficiency is the UNUSEFUL or "wasted" energy output that is unintentional. Usually in the form of sound or thermal (heat) energy.

Multiple Select

What are the most common types of inefficiency?

• Radiant

• Thermal

• Electrical

• Sound

• GPE

Example:

Battery-powered flashlight

Chemical --> electrical --> radiant
