8
Multiple Select
Select ALL the correct human organ systems from the list below:
Periodic system
Circulatory system
Endocrine system
Tri-Rail system
Nervous system
9
Multiple Choice
The nervous system works together with many of your other organ systems to maintain homeostasis.
True
False
10
Our organs work together!
When one or more organs work together, it's called an organ system.
For example...
11
12
Multiple Choice
Which of these organ systems breaks down food into nutrients?
Respiratory system
Circulatory system
Digestive system
Nervous system
13
But organ systems also work together!
They interact in a bunch of ways to carry out the complex functions we're used to, like: walking, eating, and growing up!
14
Example #1: Moving
On the surface level:
+ Muscles move bones to run
But also, what is coordinating it all?
+ The nervous system!
And where is it getting energy from?
+ The digestive system!
Where do the cells get oxygen from?
+ The circulatory and respiratory systems!
15
Example #2: Eating
You'd think it's just the digestive system turning food into nutrients, right? Well, that's one level...
It's also:
+ Bones (teeth, mandible) chewing
+ Muscles moving food along
+ Blood vessels carrying nutrients
+ Brain bossing everyone around
+ Hormones making you hungry/full
16
The things you do to keep alive must be done by more than one organ system!
That's what makes you an organism.
17
Multiple Choice
One system interaction that we all need to live is breathing. Which other organ system works with the respiratory system to do it?
(Hint: Your chest/lungs moves up and down when you breathe!)
the digestive system
the endocrine system
the muscular system
18
The
Integumentary System
Covers the outside of the body.
+ Protects muscles and organs
+ Regulates temperature
+ Fights germs, keeps them out
Three layers:
+ epidermis, dermis, subcutaneous.
19
Multiple Choice
Which of these scientific terms are part of the skin?
Epidermis and dermis
Elastic and putrid
Conductive and respondent
20
The Muscular System
Helps you move and protect body.
+ Covers bones/organs in layers
+ Contracts and relaxes to move
+ Consumes energy to work well
There are more than 600 muscles in a human body! Like:
+ Biceps, triceps, pectorals, etc.
21
The Skeletal System
Helps to move and protect organs.
+ Attached to muscles via tendons
+ Attached to bones w/ ligaments
+ Also creates blood cells!
An adult human has about 206 bones - children have more!
+ Long bones don't fuse until older
22
Open Ended
List all the muscles and bones that you know the names of below:
23
Body System Work with Each Other
Each individual body system works in conjunction with other body systems. The circulatory system is a good example of how body systems interact with each other. Your heart pumps blood through a complex network of blood vessels. When your blood circulates through your digestive system, for example, it picks up nutrients your body absorbed from your last meal.
24
Your blood also carries oxygen inhaled by the lungs. Your circulatory system delivers oxygen and nutrients to the other cells of your body then picks up any waste products created by these cells, including carbon dioxide, and delivers these waste products to the kidneys and lungs for disposal.
25
