Run-On Sentences
We are going to practice
eliminating run-on sentences
from our work this week.

A run-on sentence is two or more complete sentences
incorrectly joined together.
Example:
There was a forest and it had a tree and the tree was in
a river and there was a swing on the tree.
What’s a Run-On?

Three Methods:
1) Separate the two sentences with a period. Remove
words as needed. Capitalize and punctuate
correctly.
2) Use a comma and a FANBOYS conjunction to
correctly join the sentences.
3) Use a semicolon to correctly join the two sentences.

Run-on:
There was a forest and it had a tree and the tree was in
a river and there was a swing on the tree.
Fixed!
There was a forest.
It had a tree.
The tree was in a river.
There was a swing on the tree.
Let’s fix this!

Run-on:
I walked down the dirt path and saw the trees and then I
heard a noise it was a wolf the wolf chased me.
Fixed:
I walked down the dirt path and saw the trees.
Then, I heard a noise.
It was a wolf.
The wolf chased me!
