An instruction is a text that tells the reader how to do something, step by step.

They are written for someone who needs to know how to do something.

  • Title.

  • List.

  • Sub-headings.

  • Command verbs/imperative verbs.

  • Sequencing words.

  • Photograms or diagrams.

  • Bulleting or numbering.

How to write an instruction.

Decide on your title.


Think of your subheadings(what you need and what to do).


Write your list (of the materials you will need).


Use time connectives and imperative verbs to write the steps.


Write in present tense.


Use some adjectives to make the steps clear, detailed and exciting.


Remember to add some photos or diagrams with labels.
