• 2 people in each family = 3

• to find the fraction we write 3 over the total

  • 3/24 in simplest form 1/8

• To find the percent we set up a proportion

  • 1/8 = x/100 because percents are out of 100

  • cross multiply and divide

  • x=12.5%

​We have asked 24 kids in our class. I asked each kid how many people are in their family.

• A bar graph is a type of graph that shows the number of items in a specific category.

• A dot plot is a graph that shows the frequency of a set of data with a number line.

  • Both types of these graphs can be used to make part-to-whole comparisons and equivalents.

Step 1   Determine the total number of people surveyed.

 24 + 26 + 12 + 22 + 16 = 100

Step 2   Divide the total number of people by the number of people who chose berry.

100 ÷ 16 = 6.25

So, 6.25 times as many people were surveyed than chose berry

           

           

Use the bar graph to compare the total number of people surveyed to the ones who chose berry.
