Earth's Atmosphere
Earth's Atmosphere
Is all of the Air surrounding the Earth
It is held here by gravity
It is thicker closer to the Earth because that's how gravity works
It is composed of (Made Of):
78% Nitrogen
21% Oxygen
1% all other gas: Argon, Carbon Dioxide and Water vapor

The Atmosphere has layers based on temperature
Thermosphere (50-800 mi, temp increases up)
Mesosphere (31-50 mi temp decreases up)
Stratosphere (11-31 mi, temp increases up)
Troposphere(0-11 mi , temp decreases up)
We live in the Troposphere
(Nosotros Viven in the Troposphere)

Multiple Choice
The Layer of the atmosphere closes to the ground is the
Thermosphere
Troposphere
Mesosphere
Stratosphere
7
TROPOSPHERE
Lowest Layer (Near the ground)
Within this layer, all weather occurs
The troposphere contains 75 % of the Earth’s air (gasses)

Stratosphere
The stratosphere contains the ozone (O3)layer.
Ozone protects the Earth from the Sun’s ultraviolet radiation.
Ultraviolet radiation can cause skin cancer and eye disease. Without the ozone layer, there would be no life on Earth.

Mesosphere
The mesosphere protects the Earth from meteoroids.
Millions of meteors burn up daily in the mesosphere when the meteors collide with air molecules. Meteors travel towards Earth at 45 miles per second. Friction with the air causes the meteor to vaporize.

Multiple Choice
In the mesosphere the friction of the air causes these to vaporize or burn up

Thermosphere
The thermosphere is the highest layer of the atmosphere
The thermosphere is divided into two parts –
Ionosphere
Exosphere (outer space)
The layer contains little or no air
The thermosphere contains Earth’s man-made satellites

Multiple Select
the atmosphere is important to life because it (choose all that are true)
Protects us from meteors
protects us from solar radiation
has oxygen
makes us cold

Summary
The Air we breathe is in the Atmosphere, it has Oxygen and Nitrogen in it. We use the Oxygen. The layers of the atmosphere are divided by scientists according to temperature changes. There are 4 main layers: Troposphere by the ground, Stratosphere, Mesosphere, Thermosphere closest to moon and sun.
