WHAT IS A CLAUSE?

A clause is a group of words that include a subject and a verb. It forms a sentence or part of a sentence. There are two types of clauses:


- Independent clause

-Dependent clause

INDEPENDENT CLAUSE

An independent clause is a group of words that includes a subject and a verb. It is also called a main clause. It does not need anything to support as it can stand on its own.

examples include:

- ERIKA DOES HER HOMEWORK
- EMILY WATCHES TV

DEPENDENT CLAUSE

An dependent clause is a group of words that includes a subject and a verb. It is also called a subordinate clause. It cannot stand on its own, it needs a main/ independent clause.

examples include:

- WHEN SHE GETS IT
- BEFORE SHE SLEEPS
