Linear parent function

The linear parent function is the original function that has no changes or transformations taking place.

M (slope) = 1

B (y-intercept) = 0

Change in B

When changing the y-intercept it creates a shift up or down on the y-axis.

For problem #1, a y-intercept of 3 means the graph was shifted up 3

For probelm #2, a y-intercept of -4 means the graph was shifted down 4

Change in M

When I look at slope, I think about my line as a hill that is being walked up. The slope is either steeper and harder to walk up or flatter and easier to walk up.

For #3, the slope increased to 3. When slop is greater than 1, we say the slope became steeper

For #4, the slope is 1/3. When the slope is between 0 and 1, we say the slope got flatter or less steep.

A Negative Slope

A negative slope make the graph flip. We derscribe this as a reflection over the x-axis. The negative with the slope does it's own transformation
