-s and -es

As you could see in the video the most common way to make nouns plural is by adding -s. For singular nouns already ending with an s-sound (s, x, z, sh, ch, ss) you need to make the ending -es, as the word would be very difficult to pronounce otherwise.

When a letter or a group of letters are preceded (föregås) by a dash (-), as in -s and -es, it means that the s or the es are added to another word.

cat + -s = cats

Som du kunde se i videon är det vanligast att göra substantiv till plural genom att lägga till -s. Om ett substantiv i singular redan slutar på ett s-ljud (s, x, z, sh, ch, ss) lägger man till ändelsen -es istället, för att ordet ska gå att uttala.
