Producers,Consumers and decomposers
Organisms and environment
2
Poll
How are you feeling today?
3
Objective
We are going to investigate that most producers need sunlight, water and Carbon dioxide to make their own food, while consumers are dependent on other organisms for food.
4
Open Ended
What did you eat for dinner last night?
5
Last meal you ate
Where did the food come from? Maybe it came from the grocery store or a restaurant. Maybe it even came from your backyard. Now think of a lion living on the plains in Africa. Where do you think his last meal came from? Definitely not the grocery store! Lions have to hunt for their food.
6
Ecosystem
An ecosystem is a community of interacting organisms and their environment.
Examples:
Tundra
Rainforest
Desert
Swamps
7
What are producers? What do they need to make their food?
?
8
Producers
Some living things make their own food. These organisms are called producers. They need THREE things to survive which are Water, Sunlight, and Carbon dioxide. They use sunlight as energy, they get the water from rain, and carbon dioxide from breathing which is a process called PHOTOSYNTHESIS!
9
Multiple Choice
What are the THREE things producers need in order to survive ?
Water, Sunlight, and Carbon Dioxide
Water, Soil, and light
Water, air, and soil
10
Multiple Choice
What is the process called that contains the three main things a producer needs to survive?
Photosynthesis
Water Cycle
Soil
Light
11
Photosynthesis
Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants and certain other organisms transform light energy into chemical energy. Plants use sunlight as energy, they get water from rain, and carbon dioxide from breathing and release oxygen.
These three key ingridents are needed for the Photosynthesis process.
12
Multiple Choice
Where do plants or other producers get their energy from?
Soil
Water
Sun
13
Examples of Producers
Cactus
Trees
Flowers
Grass
14
Multiple Select
Select all that apply: Producers are?
plants
animals
trees
grass
15
Consumer
A consumer is a living thing that cannot make its own food, instead "consumes" it. Consumers obtain their energy by feeding on other organisms.
16
Multiple Choice
How does the consumer obtain it's energy
By producing it's own food
By feeding on other organism
By breaking down waste
17
Examples of Consumers
ANIMALS such as :
Cows
Lions
Pandas
Rabbits
AND WE HUMANS are Consumers
18
Open Ended
Write 2 examples of a consumer.
(Hint : Animals or even YOU)
19
Decomposer
Decomposers are consumers that get energy from the remains of dead plants and animals. They break down waste and dead organisms.
20
Multiple Choice
How do decomposers get their energy from?
Sunlight
Soil
Dead plants and Animals
Water
21
Examples of decomposers
Bacteria
Worms
Mushrooms
Insects
