Normal Quotes With a Known Author

  • When we cite evidence directly from a text, we place it inside quotation marks " " and copy it word for word.

  • We give the author credit by adding their last name to the end in parenthesis ( ) and we make a note about which page number the quote can be found on.

  • Example:

Romantic poetry is characterized by the “spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings” (Wordsworth 263).

  • We do the same thing as with a known author but we put the article title and page number in the parenthesis ().
