Office Act which limited
the power of the
president when he
wanted to fire someone

Congress to impeach
him.

person could vote
regardless of their race

Hayes was elected
president of the U.S.

• He withdrew federal

troops from the South
and officially ended
Reconstruction

freedmen and created
“Jim Crow” laws that
segregated freedmen
from the rest of society
