The Democratic Party was formed in 1792, the symbol for the party is the donkey. The Democratic Party believes that the federal government should take a more active role in people's lives, particularly those who are in need. This means that they are often in favor of creating and paying for government programs and services to help people in need. As a result, the Democratic Party has a history of increasing taxes in order to provide more government social programs. Additionally, the Democratic Party values a universal or affordable healthcare and educational system.

The Republican Party was founded in 1854. Also known as the GOP or Grand Old Party, the party established the elephant as its symbol or mascot. The Republican Party believes that the federal government should play a small role in people's lives and allow private citizens and businesses to provide services for citizens in need. They favor lower taxes for all citizens, decrease government spending, and more freedom or less regulations for businesses and individuals to compete on the economic market with little government interference. Additionally, the Republican Party has a history of supporting military advancements.
