Tips for Rounding

  • Target the PLACE you are rounding to

  • Focus on the digit to the RIGHT of the targeted place

  • Decide whether the Target number increases by 1 or stays the same

  • Remember to replace number(s) to the right of the Target # with zero(s)

ROUND TO THE NEAREST HUNDRED

  • The TARGET or FOCUS number is the 2 (in the HUNDREDS place)

  • Look at the digit to the RIGHT of the TARGET number (it's a 5 so the TARGET NUMBER INCREASES BY 1)

  • Keep the digits to the LEFT of the target number the same. Change all the digits to the RIGHT of the target number to zero
