What is scientific Theory and Evidence?

  • A scientific theory is a proposed description, explanation, or model of something occurring in nature.

  • These theories have to be testable so that scientists can use the scientific method to see if they work.

4

Notes

  • Scientific theories are ideas or explanations about what the world is like or how things work.

  • The scientific method involves doing experiments and gathering evidence to test scientific theories.

  • A scientific theory can be accepted as a scientific law if scientists test it over time and always find evidence that supports the theory.

  • Scientific method is the steps we take in doing an experiment: observations, hypotheses, designing experiments, gathering data, and drawing conclusions.
