  • Can have a compund subject or predicate

  • Example: Bob and Jill went to the park (compoud subject)

  • Example: Jill played on the playground and ran on the track (compoud predicate).

  • Are joined by a coordinating conjunction

  • FANBOYS: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so

  • Mindy is going to surf camp this summer, and she is going to learn to ski in the winter.

  • I really want to go on a cruise to the Caribbean, but I get really se sick on boats.

Complex Sentences

  • Are composed of one independent clause (complete thought) and one dependent clause (incomplete thought) joined by a subordinating conjunction

  • AWUBIS: after, although, as, as if, as long as, which, while, when, where, whether, if, if only, in order that, because, before, unless, until, since, so that.

  • Martin and Nick will go to the water park unless there is a thunderstorm.

  • Since we want to go on vacation this summer, my family made a budget to save up money.

  • You can wrap the cakes and pies and deliver them after we bake them.
