Eclipses through the eyes of NASA

I went to my local library and got information on how to

experience the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024.

I also got my safety solar viewing glasses from the library.

You can go to go.nasa.gov/Eclipse2024 for more

Umbra and Penumbra

When light is blocked by an object a shadow appears. A

shadow is a dark area on a bright surface.

In Solar Eclipse the moon comes between sun and the

earth. The moon blocks out the light from the sun and the

moon’s shadow falls on the Earth’s surface. Umbra is

the darkest part of the shadow. The part of the shadow

that is lighter is called Penumbra.
