2
Slope and intercept
There are two key factors we need to identify in a graph of a line.
1. slope
2. y-intercept
y = m x + b
slope --- y-intercept
After we find these, we plug them into the equation.
3
Multiple Choice
What is the slope-intercept form of the equation of a line?
y=yx+b
y=mx+b
x=yx+b
x=xy+b
4
Finding slope from a Table
Slope = change in y/change in x
Use the table to find the value the y is changing by. That is the numerator!
Use the table to find the value the x is changing by. That is the denominator!
ANOTHER OPTION: Graph the points and count rise/run

Finding the Slope of a Line
Slope can tell us how steep a line is!
Each line can be assigned a value (a #) that tells us how steep the line is.
Slope is written as a ratio (rise/run)
Always make sure to simplify your answer!

Y-intercept is where the graph line touches the y-axis; the y-value when x is zero.
You can find y-intercept from graphs, tables, or equations.
b= y-intercept
14
The number on the y-axis
y-intercept from a graph
The number directly across from the x-value when the x-value is 0.
