6

You can write these as coordinates or as a set { } of x values since y is always zero

x = -2, x = 1, x = 4

2

x = -4, x = 0, x = 1, x = 2,

3

x = -2, x = -1, x = 0, x = 4

4

x = -4, x = -1, x = 2

12

Try #1-6 on your classwork, then go to the next slide to check.

On the second page, copy down the following.

recall:

f(x) = y

All of these "solutions" are where y = 0, so all we have to do is set f(x) equal to zero and solve for x. Note: this is NOT the same as plugging in zero for x. Look at the example on the next slide.

15

Now try #8-12 and check on the next slide.

16

17

solve by graphing:

1) open a new tab and go to desmos.com

2) click graphing calulator

3) type in the function for each problem. You can use y or f(x). To get an exponent, yuse the desmos keyboard OR shift+6 will give you an exponent

4) click on the graph and you will see gray dots appear for the solutions. click them and desmos gives you the answer!

18

Draw

Draw a graph where the solutions are at x = -1 and 2

19

Now try # 14 and 15 in desmos. when finished, check on the next screen.
