Paraphrasing - describing / order / opposites

Use Definitions or Descriptions to Replace Words.

Examples:

teacher = someone who teaches

 

beach = a sandy area near the sea

Open Ended

Write a definition for 'student'.

Open Ended

Write a definition for teacher.

write a definition for graduate.

Use an opposite way of saying something 

 

   If a sentence is positive, you can say it in a negative way, changing a word to an opposite. 

Example:

Original: There are many careless drivers in Saudi Arabia.

Paraphrased: There aren’t a lot of good drivers in Saudi Arabia.

Rewrite in an opposite way:

The population of the UAE is very young.

Open Ended

Rewrite in an oppossite way.

The President was pleased with the election results.

Use an opposite way of saying something 

    If a sentence is negative, you can say it in a positive way, changing a word to an opposite. 

Example:

Original: There isn’t usually much rain in the UAE.

Paraphrased. The weather in the UAE is usually very dry.

Use a different sentence order

Try to re-order the words in the sentence, but be sure that the meaning is not changed. 

Examples:

Original: Muscat is the capital city of Oman.

Paraphrased: The capital city of Oman is Muscat. 

Original: If the report is completed by tomorrow, it will be mailed.

Paraphrased: The report will be mailed tomorrow if it is completed.

Because of the heavy traffic, the shipment will be late.

Change the order of the sentence.

The event will be cancelled if it is raining.

Open Ended

Change the order of the sentence.

The minister will be giving a talk tomorrow at the university.
