What is "The Cloud"?

Person A: I think the cloud is....
Person B: I agree / would like to build on that / would like to challenge...

Name as many cloud storage services as you can...

6

media

Cloud storage stores files and media on a server that can be accessed through the internet using a personal login..

The server is remote which means it is not necessarily in the building where you are using the device.

The server is often owned by another company e.g. Apple or Microsoft

Cloud Storage

7

Cloud Storage

Below is the process used for cloud storage. It is important to remember that an internet connection is required to access and upload you files.

8

Multiple Choice

What is used to store files when using cloud storage?

1
External hard drives
2

Server

3

Memory Sticks

4
USB flash drives

When a file is saved to cloud storage

When a file is updated on cloud storage.

How you access cloud storage.

When retrieving a file from the cloud.

The device that stores the files.

Features of Cloud Storage

Version History

You will see different versions of the same document to track changes.

Automatic Backups

Cloud Storage backs up files automatically so you don't have to worry.

Auto-Synchronisation

When changes are made to files this is updated automatically.

Cross Platform

You can access your files across different devices.

Benefits

  • Scalable: You have the option to buy more storage or reduce the amount being used, helping you save money.

  • Accessibility: You can access files from anywhere with internet access, allowing flexible working.

  • Cost Saving: No need for experts to set this up or perform the maintenance, this is all done by the cloud company being used.

12

media

Drawbacks

  • Connectivity: You need an internet connection to access your files.

  • Speed/Performance: Your internet access might be poor which means uploading and downloading files can be slow.

  • Accountability: Who is accountable if there is a data breach.

  • Security Concerns: Any data/files stored on the internet has a higher risk of being accessed by hackers.

13

Match

Match the following feature to the benefit.

Automatic Backups

Auto Synchronisation

Advantages of Mesh Topology
In case of failure of a single device, the entire network didn’t break.
There is no traffic problem as there is a dedicated point to point links for every device.
Mesh Topology provides high privacy and security.
Data transmission is more consistent because failure doesn’t disrupt its processes. Adding new devices won’t disrupt transmission of data.

Disadvantages of Mesh Topology
Mesh Topology is costly as compared to the other network topologies i.e. star, bus, point to point topology.
Installation of nodes are difficult in mesh topology.
Power requirement is higher as all the nodes will need to remain active all the time and share the load. Each node requires a extra utility cost.
More maintenance is required in mesh topology.
