Section 1: Pages 126-129
The punctuation in this poem is pretty consistent in that almost all of the stanzas end with a period. This represents a clean break between each of the speaker's thoughts. That being said, the final stanza ends with an ellipsis. This helps to show that Silvia is dreaming of her family as her thoughts trail off.
Recall that the mood is how the reader feels about the text. As Silvia remembers the ajiaco with people dancing and celebrating, she says she feels "something special."
How does Silvia feel in this moment? How does that make you feel?
In this poem, Silvia uses the example of the ajiaco to convey an important theme. She notes that each cook brings an ingredient to make the stew. This shows that people need to put their efforts together in order to create something better.
How else is this theme represented in the story?
