  • ​born in 1564 in Stratford-Upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England

  • married at age 18 to Anne Hathaway

  • three children: Susanna, Hamnet, and Judith

  • Beginning in 1594 (~age 30) he was a prominent member of the Lord Chamberlain's Company of Players (also known as the "King's Men"). This was a theatre troupe operating out of the Globe Theatre (in 1599). He was the lead playwright.

  • wrote 159 sonnets and 39 plays

  • died in 1616 (age 52)
