Objectives:

• Define "Big Data" and its characteristics

• Understand the complexities of collecting, processing and managing large sets of data

• Identify real-world application of big data in various fields

• Make connections between sustainability and technology

• Analyze and discuss the value of big data

​There are 5 Characteristics of Big Data:

VOLUME: Is immense in size (ex. # of Visa purchases per minute)

VARIETY: Uses different types of data (text, images, audio, video)

VERACITY: Data used is reliable and factual

VELOCITY: Data is generated and process at a very quick rate

VALUE: Data is useful for the company
