Learning Intention

3

Introduction to Reflective Practice

Why do we reflect?

Reflection helps us:

  • 🎯 Understand our growth as dancers and choreographers

  • 💡 Identify what worked well and what needs improvement

  • 🌏 Deepen our understanding of cultural meaning in dance

“Reflection is how we turn movement into meaning.”

4

Focus Areas for Reflection

When reflecting on your performance and choreographic process, consider:

  • 🔹 Cultural Authenticity – Did your movements honour the cultural style?

  • 🔹 Technical Execution – Were your steps clean and accurate?

  • 🔹 Expression – Did you show emotion and intent clearly?

  • 🔹 Audience Connection – Did your performance communicate meaning?

5

  • Gave specific examples

  • Reflected honestly

  • Identified an area for improvement

Notice how I:

“In my performance, I felt confident in my energy and expression. I stayed connected to the cultural intent of the piece, especially in the grounded arm movements. My timing was slightly off in the middle section, which I’ll work on by practising transitions more consistently.”

🎉 Well done on completing this unit!

Dance is more than just movement — it’s a way to tell stories, share identity, and celebrate culture.

Through reflection, we keep growing as artists and global citizens.

📌 Don’t forget: The best dancers are always learning — from themselves, and from each other.
