Definition of Procedure Text
A procedure text is a text that is designed to describe how something is achieved through a sequence of actions or steps.

Characteristics of Procedure Text
• Usually uses Simple Present Tense
• Using imperative form/command form.
• Using action verbs.
• Using temporal conjunctions.
• Using conjunctions to sequence activities.
• Using adverbs to express detailed time, place, accurate ways.
• Using adverbs to express stages or sequences.

Purpose of Procedure Text
The purpose of procedure text is to tell the reader how to do or make something through a sequence of actions or steps.
The social purpose of procedure text is to show how something is done through a sequence of steps that enable the reader to achieve the goal.

Generic Structure of Procedure Text
The following is a generic structure of procedure text:
• Goal: provides information about the intent and purpose of the procedure and predicts a conclusion.
• Materials: contains a list of materials or materials needed to perform a procedure or steps.
• Steps: a list of sequences of instructions/activities to achieve a goal in the correct sequence of steps.
• Result: The result of a series of steps that have been carried out.

Types of Procedure Text
Procedure text in English has several types. Here are 3 types of procedure text that you should know:
1. Procedure text that explains how something works or how to use an instruction/operation manual. For example how to use a computer.
2. Procedure text that instructs how to do certain activities. For example how to dance.
3. Procedure text related to human behavior. For example how to succeed.

Example: How to make ice cream
Materials :
o 2 cups milk or cream
o 2 tablespoons sugar
o 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
o Several cups of Ice
o 1 cup salt
Supplies to make ice cream:
o Tub or large coffee can to hold salt and ice
o Glass bowl or small coffee can
o Electric mixer or whisk
o Ice cream scoop
o Storage container for freezer

Steps:
1. First, setting up the cooling apparatus. Stir ice and salt in the larger container.
2. Then, combine the ingredients. Mix together the milk, sugar, and vanilla in the glass bowl.
3. Then, set this bowl in the tub filled with ice and rock salt, making sure that the saltwater does not spill into the bowl.
4. Next, mix the ice cream. Mix the ingredients in the small container vigorously. The salty ice mixture will cool the mixture down until it turns into ice cream. It should take
