2

The faster an object moves, the more energy it has.

Ball 1 traveled 5 m/s. At this rate, it would travel how much in 3 seconds?

Ball 1 has traveled further than Ball 2 in the same amount of time. Ball 1 had more energy than Ball 2.

Two identical soccer balls are kicked at the same time. Ball 1 traveled 5 meters in 1 second. Ball 2 traveled 3 meters in 1 second.

Multiple Choice

Two identical cars are moving down the road. Car 1 is traveling 50 miles per hour. Car 2 is traveling 55 miles per hour. Which statement is corrrect?

1

Car 1 has more speed and energy.

2

Car 2 has more speed and less energy.

3

Car 1 has less speed and more energy.

4

Car 2 has more speed and energy.

Question image

Steven went for a run on Monday and Tuesday. On Monday, he ran on the school track. On Tuesday, he ran through the woods behind his house. Which statement is likely true?

1

He ran slower on the track.

2

He ran faster in the woods.

3

He ran slower in the wooded area.

6

Objects transfer energy when they collide.

Some energy is transferred when a bowling ball hits the pins.

Some of the bowling ball's energy is transformed into sound and heat.

Question image

Which of the following could be the reason they traveled different distances?

1

They have different weights.

2

They were released from the same point on the ramp.

3

They were pushed with different force.

4

The marbles were pushed with equal force.

10

Temperature affects how particles move.

Particles spread out and move faster as the temperature increases. They slow down and huddle together as the temperature decreases.

On a hot day, the heat from the air will transfer to the balloon. On a cool day, the air inside the balloon is warmer. It will transferout from the balloon.

Hot vs. Cold Air

The hot pan has a higher temperature than your finger. The heat from the pan is transferred to your finger. OUCH!

Touching a hot pan

Heat transfers from higher temperatures to lower temperatures.

13

Collisions...

When objects traveling toward each other collide both objects will transfer their energy to the other.

If both objects are traveling the same speed, they will bounce away from each other equally. If one is traveling faster, or has more energy, it will transfer that energy and push the other in the opposite direction.

Some energy will be transferred to heat and sound.
