Vowel Teams A vowel team is a pair of two vowels that can work together to make one sound.
There are six vowel teams that make the long a vowel sound:

Vowel Team Syllables
Words are made up of different types of syllables. You learned that closed syllables happen when a single vowel is closed in by a consonant. Words can be made up of vowel team syllables, too! Look at the vowel team syllables.

Prefix ex- and Suffix -ee Remember, a prefix is a word part added to the beginning of a word to change the word's meaning. A suffix is a word part added at the end to change a word's meaning. Today, you will learn about the prefix ex- and the suffix -ee.

Prefix ex- The prefix ex- can be added to the beginning of a base word or word part to change its meaning. The prefix ex- can mean “out of,” “from,“ “not,” or “without.” The word “exit” has the prefix ex- added to the base it.
