I can:

  • read, spell, and write words with C-le spelling patterns

  • identify and spell multisyllabic words through syllable mapping (encoding), including C-le syllables

  • identify, read, and spell words with the Latin roots mis and mit

  • demonstrate comprehension of the text through oral or written response

Objectives:

C-le Words
You know the rules of the C-le spelling pattern:

  • C-le comes at the end of a syllable.

  • A consonant is before -le.

  • In a closed syllable, the consonant is doubled.

  • The e at the end is silent.

5

media

Now, you will divide words with the C-le syllable pattern.

  1. Find and mark the vowels and consonants. Remember to keep consonant blends and digraphs together.

  2. Find the final e at the end of the syllable and count back three.

  3. Circle the C-le pattern, and divide the word before the C-le spelling pattern. Blend the syllables together to read the whole word.

6

media

Dividing C-le syllables for words ending in -ckle follows a different pattern.

For example, when dividing syllables in the word “pickle,“ find the e and count back three.

  • This brings you to the letter k, but the letter k is part of the digraph ck, and you do not divide digraphs.

  • You cannot double the digraph ck to make the syllable “pi” have a short vowel sound.

  • Since you do not divide or double digraphs, you will divide the syllable between the ck and l.
