What allowed the port of Melaka to succeed before the 15th Century?
Parameswara recognised the Chinese emperor as Melaka’s overlord, and received protection from Chinese naval power. This kept the seas safe from pirates.
Parameswara converted to Islam, married a Muslim princess, and made Islam the official religion of Melaka. This helped him attract Muslim traders from the Middle East.
Parameswara ensured that Melaka had a deep and sheltered harbour that protected trading ships from strong winds and waves. Fresh drinking water was also plentiful.
Parameswara made Melaka a free port so traders need not pay taxes to use the port. As they earn more profits, they like bringing businesses as they can earn more money.

Reorder
Describe the weaknesses of General Percival's command that led to the fall of Singapore.
General Percival made several mistakes that caused Singapore to fall to the Japanese. Right in the beginning, he did not defend the northwest side of the island properly
because he thought the Japanese would attack from the northeast, where the big guns were facing. The British, Indian,
and Australian troops did not work well together because of poor communication and slow orders.
Percival was also too careful and did not fight back quickly. This gave the Japanese time to capture important places
like the water supply. His weak planning and leadership made it easy for the Japanese to defeat the British in February 1942.
