The Tale of the Trojan Horse

The Trojan War is a super famous story from Greek mythology. It's about a big fight between the Greeks and the city of Troy, said to have happened way back around the 12th or 13th century BC. The reason for the war? A Trojan prince named Paris kidnapped Helen, the wife of Menelaus, who was the king of Sparta.

The Greeks really wanted Helen back, so they gathered a huge army and sailed to Troy. The city of Troy had massive walls that were super tall, some reaching 20 feet high. For ten long years, the Greeks tried to break through those walls, but they just couldn't do it. It was a total stalemate, like a never-ending game of tug-of-war.

The Tale of the Trojan Horse

Just when things seemed hopeless, a clever Greek general named Odysseus came up with a sneaky plan. He suggested they build a giant wooden horse as a fake peace offering. Inside the horse, they would hide a group of soldiers. The rest of the Greek army would pretend to sail away, making the Trojans think they had given up.

So, the Greeks built this huge, beautiful wooden horse. They made it look amazing because, in ancient Greece, everything had to be as beautiful as possible. Then, they left it outside the gates of Troy and sailed away.

The Tale of the Trojan Horse

The Trojans were super excited! They thought they had won the war. They dragged the giant horse inside their city as a trophy. They were so happy that they started celebrating and gloating.

That night, while everyone in Troy was asleep, the Greek soldiers hiding inside the horse quietly climbed out. They opened the city gates, and the rest of the Greek army, which had secretly sailed back, rushed in. The Greeks attacked and destroyed the city of Troy, finally winning the war.
