What Are Adverbs?

Let's look at this sentence: 'The fluffy white rabbit hopped quickly towards the very green garden.'
- The action word in the sentence is the verb ‘hopped’.
- How did the rabbit hop? It hopped ‘quickly’, which is an adverb.
- The word ‘green’ is an adjective because it describes the garden.
- We can ask how green the garden is. It is ‘very’ green.
- The word ‘very’ is an adverb because it modifies the adjective 'green'.
- Adverbs like ‘quickly’ and ‘very’ add more detail to the sentence.
