Introduction to Adverbs
Have you ever wanted to make your stories more exciting? Adverbs are words that can add more detail to your writing. They describe verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs, telling us how, when, or where an action happens. Think of them as the spice that makes your sentences more flavorful. Today, we will learn how to use adverbs to make our writing come alive!
5
Let's Learn with an Example
Let's look at this sentence: 'The fluffy kitten yawned sleepily.'
First, find the action in the sentence. What did the kitten do? It yawned. The word 'yawned' is the verb.
Next, ask a question about that verb. How did the kitten yawn? It yawned sleepily.
Because sleepily describes the verb 'yawned,' it is an adverb. It gives us a better image in our minds of how the kitten yawned.
