Introduction to Conjunctions
Have you ever told a story with short, choppy sentences like, 'I went to the park. I saw a dog. The dog was friendly. I petted the dog.'? It sounds a bit robotic, right? This is where conjunctions come in to save the day! Conjunctions are powerful connecting words that join words, phrases, and even whole sentences together. Think of them as the glue that holds our ideas together, creating a smooth flow. They don't just connect ideas; they also show the relationship between them, like cause and effect, contrast, or choice. Using words like and, but, or, because, and so helps make our writing and speaking clearer and much more interesting to listen to!

Let's Learn with an Example
Let's look at this sentence: 'The team practiced hard, so they won the championship game.'
The word so is a coordinating conjunction that connects two complete ideas. It shows a cause-and-effect relationship. Because the team practiced hard, the effect was winning the game. This shows why choosing the right conjunction is important for clear meaning.
