Introduction to Conjunctions
Have you ever read something that sounds choppy and robotic, like: 'I like pizza. I like burgers. I don't like salad.'? It gets a little boring, right? This is where conjunctions come in to save the day! Conjunctions are powerful connecting words that act like bridges in our sentences. They link words, phrases, and even whole ideas together to make our writing and speaking sound smoother and more natural. You already use them all the time without even thinking about it! Words like and, but, and or are some of the most common conjunctions. Today, we’re going to master how to use these connectors to make your sentences more interesting and your ideas clearer.

Let's Learn with an Example
Let's see how to use conjunctions with an example. We have two ideas: 'The team played hard' and 'The team lost the game.' First, think about how the ideas connect. One is positive, and the other is negative, which shows a contrast. Next, choose a conjunction that shows contrast, like 'but' from FANBOYS. Finally, combine the sentences: 'The team played hard, but they lost the game.' Adding a comma before 'but' creates a clear and effective sentence.
