Hello, learners!
Welcome to your new Learning Activity Sheet (LAS).
2
We are your guides for this LAS.
Let's start learning!
3
INTRODUCTION
4
This Learning Activity Sheet (LAS) is an excerpt from The Importance of Being Earnest, Act I, by Oscar Wilde.
5
The play satirizes how superficial values
such as names, social status, and etiquette often replace genuine identity and sincerity in
Victorian society.
6
In this LAS, you will analyze this dialogue to understand characters’ motivations and the logic behind their statements, use descriptive language to express evaluations, and compose a play review based on your observations.
7
These are your target competencies:
Reading Competency: Judge the relevance and worth of ideas, the soundness of the author’s reasoning, and the effectiveness of the presentation. EN9RC-IVf2.22
Writing Competency: Compose a play review. EN9WC-IVg-11
Grammar Competency: Use words to express evaluation.
EN9G-IVh-24
8
Specifically, you will be able to evaluate the soundness of the characters’ reasoning and
the effectiveness of the presentation by analyzing their dialogue.
9
The grammar exercises will
focus on identifying and correctly using descriptive words to clearly express your evaluations.
10
Finally, the writing tasks will guide you to create a concise and engaging play review that judges
the logic in the scene and evaluates character decisions, supported by specific examples.
11
These activities together develop your critical reading, evaluative writing, and language skills.
Have fun learning!
