The Rivera family lives in a small town. Their house has a tiny kitchen and a large backyard garden. Last summer, Mr. Rivera fixed their car with tools from his grandfather. The tools looked a little rusty and felt smooth from years of use. Mr. Rivera smiled and said the tools were useful even though they were a bit old-fashioned. He meant they came from long ago but still worked well. In the attic, Ana found an ancient pocket knife that had belonged to her great‑great grandfather; it was worn but interesting to study.

One Saturday the family visited a new store in town that sold the latest phones and tablets. The shop had bright lights and shiny displays. Mrs. Rivera pointed to a tablet and said, “That model is modern — it has new features that make things easier.” The device sat on the shelf, gleaming under the lights. The children watched a demonstration where the device made a drawing by itself; everyone was excited to try it. Mr. Rivera kept his old tools because they were reliable and always helped him finish a job.

The family wanted to buy presents for Grandma’s birthday. Some items in the store were very expensive, so they had to think carefully. The children counted the money they had saved. “We can afford one special gift,” whispered Ana, “but not everything.” When they found a small wooden music box, Mr. Rivera said it was important to pick something Grandma would love. He explained that a meaningful present shows how much you care.

After shopping, they planted new flowers in the backyard. At first the ground was hard and digging was difficult, but they kept working until the flowers were in the soil. Ana took a moment to study the seed packet to see how deep to plant each seed. By evening the garden looked bright and the family felt proud of their day.
