A haiku is a type of poetry that emerged from Japan in the 1600s (Britannica). Elements of a haiku:

  • A haiku does not need to rhyme

  • A haiku has 3 lines and 17 syllables

  • The first line has 5 syllables

  • The second line has 7 syllables

  • The final line has 5 syllables

  • Haikus are typically written about nature, seasons, landscapes, etc.
