How did the Industrial Revolution affect the world?
Changes in farming
Before the Industrial Revolution, most people lived in rural places and worked as farmers to produce food for their family and community.
In the 1700s, they figured out a technique called crop rotation. This is where farmers change what crop they grow each year. This helps the soil remain rich with the nutrients the crops need.
6
Made it easier to plant seeds, made the process much quicker.
Farmers no longer had to plant by hand.
Thresher: helped move large amounts of hay at once
Improvements to the plow: made preparing the soil easier
Produce more food, more quickly, with less labor needed.
7
Farming is much easier and requires less people
Europe begins to see more and more people moving to the cities.
In factories, machines changed the way goods were made.
- textiles (or fabric, clothes)
Before the revolution, textiles were made by hand, which was very time consuming. Machines made this process much quicker.
8
A fast paced work environment
The Assembly Line
Each person does a small part of the production process.
One person might place a wheel on a car, the next person has to tighten the bolts on the wheel.
9
Industrialization
Machines that were used during the Industrial Revolution needed to be powered by something.
Many needed fuel, and since lumber was scarce due to deforestation (cutting down trees), they had to rely on a different natural resource to power the machines.
10

Movement

Japan specifically sent scholars to Europe to learn more about the technology being used so they could use those technologies in Japan.
How?
The Industrial Revolution spread from Britain (Europe) to other places. By the end of the 1800s, both the U.S. and Japan were having their own Industrial Revolution.
