Remember, never keep secrets about someone breaking the Private Body Parts Rule. Kyle needs to report this to an adult who will help keep him safe. Let’s find out how Kyle keeps himself safe.
9
First, Kyle trys to tell his mother while she was finishing some work, but she doesn’t believe him. “Mr. Tully is very nice. He would never do something like that,” she says.
Next, Kyle tells his older brother, but he doesn’t help either. “No way,” he says. “You’re just trying to get attention. Mr. Tully is nice to us!”

Look at the illustrations of Kyle telling his mother and brother, and think about what they said to him. Why didn’t Kyle’s mother and brother believe him?
11
Breaking the Private Body Parts Rule is wrong. People who break it may do things to keep it secret. They could make sure everyone likes them. They could bring children gifts. They could get children to do things they aren’t allowed to do so they’ll be afraid they’ll get in trouble if they report. They could even threaten children to try to stop them from reporting.
12
Kyle knows he has to keep reporting until an adult helps him. He decides to talk to his teacher. He stands up straight, faces his teacher, and says in a strong, respectful voice, “I need to report a broken Private Body Parts Rule.” This was an assertive way to report what happened.
After Kyle tells his teacher what happened, she thanks him for reporting. “What’s happening to you is not your fault, and I believe you.”
Kyle’s teacher makes sure Kyle stays safe and that Mr. Tully doesn’t break the Private Body Parts Rule again.
13
Multiple Choice

Kyle is always well behaved.

Every day you go to an ECA. There is one adult there who everyone thinks is really cool. She treats you in a special way, picking you to lead games, and even brings candy just for you. One day, she asks you to help her put away some basketballs. When you are alone, she touches your private body parts. She says if you report this, she will get in trouble and you can’t be friends anymore.
