Before solving, read the final question carefully.
Don’t assume the question is asking for the variable — sometimes it asks for a
related expression instead.

Write down exactly what you are asked to find before you start solving.

When a problem looks complicated, don’t do everything at once.

Break the expression into small pieces, simplify one part at a time, and eliminate answer choices as you go.

For word problems, translate each condition separately.

Look for:

·        minimum → “at least” ·        maximum → “no more than”

·        ranges → compound inequalities
