Ingrid arrives at school Monday morning to find classmates laughing and pointing at her. "Nice face-plant!" someone whispers. Confused, her friend June shows her a video from Ingrid's mom's public social media account. The video shows Ingrid taking an epic fall during her soccer game, but then getting back up and scoring the winning goal right afterward. Her mom captioned it: "So proud of my resilient kid! Ingrid never gives up! 💪⚽"
What Ingrid's mom didn't realize was that one of her followers has a child at Ingrid's school. That child saved and reshared the video, and soon it spread throughout the school. Things got worse when Danni from class commented: "She trips in PE class too!"
When Ingrid tells her mom how upset she is, her mom says, "I thought you were OK with me sharing your sports moments. These videos help other parents feel normal about their kids' ups and downs too. I never meant for it to hurt you, honey."
Do you think Ingrid's mom should have asked for Ingrid's consent before posting the video, even though she thought Ingrid wouldn't mind? How might Ingrid feel? What can Ingrid do?
