MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTION

30 sec • 1 pt

Like many slaves, Sojourner Truth spent much of her young life unable to read or write. At the age of 30, Sojourner already had 5 children. Although her master promised her freedom, he changed his mind.

At this point, she decided to run away to New York. While there, she earned money as a maid and cook. Sojourner was much happier, but she wanted more.

As time passed, she felt a calling. Sojourner left New York at age 46 to go on a lifelong trip. She left with a bag of clothes and twenty-five cents.

Later, she would go on to give speeches for freedom and against slavery for more than 30 years. She also went to the country’s first meeting on women’s rights. President Lincoln was so impressed with Sojourner that he soon invited her to the White House.

MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTION

At the heart of this debate is the new basketball being introduced by the National Basketball Association, or NBA. Basketballs have always been made of leather. The newest version of the basketball is covered with a special type of plastic. The maker of NBA basketballs, Spalding, insists that many tests prove the newer ones are better than the leather ones. However, scientists in Texas have found that the new plastic covered basketball does not bounce quite the same way the leather one does. The new balls could have awkward bounce results though they are both the same size.

MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTION

30 sec • 1 pt

Our seas and oceans are threatened by two dangers: pollution and overfishing. Oil spills cause the deaths of countless sea creatures and birds. They also ruin our beaches. Factories, farms, and towns dump sewage and dangerous chemicals into our waters, poisoning fish and shellfish. As a result, eating these animals can lead to sickness and even death. As a result, the number of cod, herring, and anchovies in some areas is dangerously low.

MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTION

30 sec • 1 pt

Honey is nectar from flowers. Bees take nectar and turn it into honey.  First, honeybees fly from flower to flower to find nectar. Next, bees can drink in the nectar.  Then it is stored in a kind of pouch inside a bee’s body. While it is in the pouch, enzymes produced by the bee, mix with the nectar.  The enzymes help break down the nectar into simple sugars.
Then, the bees take the nectar back to the hive.  They then put it in a honey comb.  A honeycomb is a group of little six-sided cells.  The nectar is put in the cells. Last, water evaporates from the nectar.  Some bees will flap their wings to fan the honey comb. It speeds up evaporation.  As the water evaporates, the nectar becomes thick. It is now honey.
