The mouse nibbled on the stolen cheese quietly. It looked over both of its shoulders every now and then. This place wasn't the safest place to eat, but it was very hungry. Suddenly, the mouse's ears perked up. There was a soft sound of footsteps near him. Then the lights were turned on. All of the lights shined down on the mouse. The mouse held its breath and hugged the cheese tightly to its chest. It was caught! Which is the best summary of this paragraph?

Maybe, it wants me to just look at it, wondered Scott. Shaking with fear, he tried to look at the window through the tiny opening in his blanket. Scott could not make his eyes look in that direction. Suddenly, Scott thought about his favorite superhero. This is not how Mighty Man would act. He would face his fears, thought Scott. Scott took a deep breath and pulled the blanket aside. He looked at the window. There, at the window, was a tree branch beating against the glass. After all that time, Scott was only afraid of a tree branch. He could not help but smile. What is the moral of the story above?

The scariest things may not be as frightening as they seem.

Two is Company Early Sunday, Val and Reese’s parents dropped them off at the amusement park. Val and Reese had both wanted to go, but they had not wanted to go together. At the park, they spent much of their time riding the rides alone. Near the end of the day, Val found Reese. They decided to wait together for their parents to pick them up. While Val and Reese waited, they bought ice cream cones. Val ate her cone slowly so that it could last longer. Reese, on the other hand, swallowed his whole cone. Val looked at her brother with disgust. She always looked at him that way when he ate in a hurry. Reese looked up when he was done eating and asked, “What?” “Nothing,” said Val, rolling her eyes. They sat on the park bench silently. Both of them wished that their parents would pick them up soon. The day grew darker as they sat there. Val and Reese began to worry. Their parents never picked them up this late before. “I’m worried. Where are Mom and Dad?” asked Val, trying not to sound scared. “I don’t know,” replied Reese. The crowd at the park was slowly leaving. There were only a few people walking around. They stared at each other with wide eyes, wondering what they should do. Val was glad that Reese was with her, and Reese felt the same way. Suddenly, a bright set of car lights came towards them. Why are Val and Reese worried?

Passage 1 At the park, Winnie and her older sister Daisy always played together. The one thing that Winnie would not do was slide down the big slide. One day, she decided to try the slide. When she got to the top, Winnie cried, “It is too high. I want to get down.” “We will go down together. Sit in front of me, and I will hold onto you,” Daisy told her. Winnie felt safer with her sister’s arms around her. “Here we go!” Daisy announced. It was over before Winnie even blinked. “That was fun! I want to go again!” Winnie smiled. Passage 2 “Arnold, come in and have a seat.” Chuck the dentist’s helper said. Arnold sat. He wanted to run and hide. The dentist said, “Hello, Arnold. I am Doc Walker. Open your mouth wide, please.” Arnold kept his mouth tightly closed. “Do not worry, I will be very gentle,” Doc Walker said. “Would you like to watch a movie?” Chuck asked. Arnold asked, “Do you have Cars?” “Yes, we do. I will play it for you,” Chuck answered. The movie started. Arnold relaxed. The next thing he knew, it was time to go. “We are all done, Arnold,” Doc Walker said. What do the main characters in both passages have in common?
