They breathe through a blowhole located on the top of their head, and they hear through holes behind their eyes. There are about 80 kinds of whales living in oceans around the world. Whales can grow to over 100 feet long, and they can weigh over 200 tons. Whales live in family groups called pods. They communicate by making high-pitched sounds.

     In the 1992 Summer Olympics, the U.S. men's basketball team was known as the "Dream Team." Michael Jordan and David Robinson were both on that team. Today, Jordan and Robinson are both retired from professional basketball. They both played for many years.   David Robinson played for the San Antonio Spurs. He played center because of his height and build. Robinson is 7 feet, 1 inch tall and is very strong. He is called one of the best centers ever to play the game. Robinson played in the NBA from 1989 to 2003 and led the Spurs to two championships.   Jordan played for the Chicago Bulls for most of his career, though he played for the Washington Wizards for two years. He is often named as one of the greatest basketball players of all time and the greatest athletes of all time. Jordan played guard and was 6 feet, 6 inches tall. He played in the NBA from 1984 to 1993. He retired in 1993 only to come back to basketball from 1995 to 1998. He returned one last time in 2001. Jordan retired for good in 2003. He led the Bulls to six NBA championships.

     When people hear the name "The Beatles" most people think of co-lead singer, John Lennon. However, the role of Paul McCartney is often overlooked.   John Lennon and Paul McCartney were in other bands together before the forming of the Beatles. In 1962, along with Ringo Starr and George Harrison, they formed the rock group known as "The Beatles." The group featured a modern rock that was new and popular during the period with John and Paul composing and doing the leads on most of the songs. They were backed by George on lead guitar and Ringo on drums. George and Ringo also assisted on backing vocals.   When they first began playing, the main influence inside the band was John Lennon, who had an ability to compose songs at a moment's notice with an inspiration that others missed. He pushed the members of the band during their touring years and was able to achieve the best possible results from the group. However, McCartney was also a strong force in the group since Lennon many times asked for McCartney's advice about ideas for songs. McCartney wrote many of the group's biggest hit songs, and often, he didn't even ask for song writing credit.   After the breakup, McCartney launched a successful solo career. He has released many recordings both in the United States and abroad. One accomplishment was his first classical piece, Liverpool Oratorio, which is no small feat considering that McCartney never learned to read music.

     Every day, video games become more popular. About 20 years ago, the games were so big they had to be kept inside of buildings called “game arcades,” and people would have to go to places like the mall or a store to play them.   Now, video gamers can enjoy the best video games on their home computers or on their televisions. Video games played on the home computer are known as “computer games” and video games played on game consoles, such as Xbox or Nintendo, are known as “console games.” A game made to be played on one cannot be played on the other. However, many game makers release the same game on both computer and console software. This is so they can be played on both.   Computer games tend to be more complicated than console games. Console games are much easier to pick up and put down since they are easier to learn. Older video gamers tend to be interested in computer games while younger gamers are more involved in console gaming. There are even lines drawn between the two in professional video gaming. Professional computer gamers compete in an entirely different league than professional console gamers, although many gamers switch back and forth between the two.

     Heavy rains have left the Midwest in despair. At least 36 levees have collapsed because of the ongoing storms. As a result, the Mississippi River poured through a number of towns along the banks.   The hit to one of the world’s largest food exporters will have a huge influence on the economy. The damage amounts to over $6 billion, and over 5 million acres of corn and soybeans have been destroyed. Consumers should expect to see a sharp increase in prices for corn products and livestock.

Most people have had red pizza, or pizza covered with red sauce, but have you ever had white pizza?  White pizza is made in almost the same way as red pizza: the dough rises and is rolled out, toppings are applied, and it is cooked in an oven—but the key difference is that white pizza does not have any tomato sauce on it.  Instead, a white pizza may have olive oil or no sauce at all.  I like white pizza more than red pizza because you can really taste the ingredients.  Adding some fresh tomatoes to a white pizza will give it that tomato flavor without the completely overwhelming taste of the red sauce that covers most pizzas.  If you have not had a white pizza, I recommend that you order or make one today.

The foundation of every pizza is the crust, and good crust comes from good dough.  You might be surprised to learn that pizza dough is made from nothing more than flour, water, yeast, olive oil, salt, and sometimes sugar.  Start by adding your yeast packet to a cup of warm water.  Let the yeast activate, and then add two cups of flour, two tablespoons of olive oil, two teaspoons of sugar, and a teaspoon of salt.  Mix all of that together and wait half an hour for the dough to rise.  Now you’re ready to roll it out!

Cooking the perfect pizza at home can be quite a challenge.  You may find that it’s difficult to get your oven to the right temperature.  If the oven is too hot the crust will burn, become hard, and taste bad.  If your oven isn’t hot enough, the crust may get soggy.  Even at the perfect temperature, extra moisture from your ingredients may prevent the bottom of the crust from fully cooking, but don’t let oven temperature stop you from building the pizza of your dreams.  Get yourself a pizza stone.  A pizza stone will get very hot when preheated and will allow your crust to fully cook without burning it.  Then you can pile the ingredients on your pizza and have a crispy crust that isn’t burned.  That’s the way to go.
