General shop safety

Wear approved ear protection around loud, noisy equipment.

Wear a dust mask when working around a lot of fire. Wood dust can be harmful if inhaled in large amounts.

Keep used rags in an approved, covered plastic container. Damp, oily rags can ignite through spontaneous combustion. The heat produced by oxidation is enough to start a fire.

Always use your hands or a rag to clear away sawdust and metal scraps. Never use your hands to wipe off a surface.

Use the right tool for the job. Use the tool only for what it is designed to do and use the right size tool

Carry pointed or sharp tools with the point or edge held up toward the sky. This will help avoid injuries if you bump into something or if someone bumps into you.
