What are some of the reasons that European explorers came to Texas?

• To build the biggest navy and army
• Gold, land, to conquer the people that lived there
• To learn about the culture of the native people so that they could be more like them
• To build an immunity against foreign diseases and to make the native people sick.

Cause:
France built a fort on land claimed by Spain.  France and Spain were enemies. 
Effect:

• Spanish officials ignored this and went on with things like normal.
• Spain declared war on France to see who would get the land.
• Spanish officials gave the land away to France so there wouldn't be any conflict.
• Spanish officials sent soldiers, missionaries, and settlers to settle East Texas.
