Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who began painting at age 27.  He struggled with mental illness much of his life and died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the arms of his brother at age 37.  He was known for his paintings of sunflowers.  He also painted The Starry Night while residing in an asylum.  This artist sold only one painting that we know of during his lifetime.
